Chris Subagio's Stuff

Hi, I'm Chris Subagio, and here's some of my stuff, mostly things to do with the yearly js13kGames game jam. I love participating and want to share more of my process with folks, so they can use the same ideas in their games. Lord knows I've learned a ton from everyone else.

2026

The theme in 2026 was "Rainbows and Unicorns". I started out making a game called Uniphony, mainly because I'm obsessed with software synths and wanted to see what I could golf into 13k. But halfway through, I realized I had all the visual pieces I needed for a Space Harrier-style rail shooter, so I pivoted to make Panzercorn, then came back to finish Uniphony. I'm quite proud of both!

In 2026, I was deep in my VR-obsession era, so both games are playable in XR-compatible browsers. I was also really into exploring hand-tracking game design: playing games without controllers at all. There's just something magical about waving your hands around and making things happen. I developed and tested both games on Apple Vision Pro and Quest 2.

๐Ÿ“– A Practical Guide to Unicorn Construction. Folks asked, so here's a breakdown of how I animated the unicorn shared by both games.

๐ŸŽจ Why Oklab is Great, Even in 13kbs. I've become slightly obsessed with the Oklab color space. Here's how I used it in these games.

๐ŸŽฎ Panzercorn

Panzercorn is a Space Harrier-alike, built with WebGL and Web Audio, intended for VR, but playable on desktop and mobile too.

๐ŸŽฎ Uniphony

Uniphony is a sort of VR musical adventure, where you play virtual instruments for a cast of mythical horned animals.

๐ŸŽฎ Robin of Thirteensley

This was a very lo-fi, intentionally retro-coded platformer with hand-animated sprites. The audio was anachronistically a twanging guitar, which is where my obsession with Web Audio-based synths really kicked off.

๐ŸŽฎ Neon Runner '84

A neon-soaked WebGL and Web Audio endless runner.

๐Ÿ“– General postmortem. Younger me was very into CoffeeScript, had just discovered WebGL, and was despairing over the state of Web Audio.
